One-to-One Bereavement Support

We offer a caring and understanding person for you to talk with in complete confidence:
- On a one-to-one basis
- In your own home
- For as long as you need
Each Cruse Bereavement Volunteer is chosen with great care and is also specially trained.
If you need more support or would simply like more information please complete our enquiry form or if you prefer you can telephone us. If you phone on Wednesday mornings between 10.30am and 12 noon you can speak to one of our volunteers. At any other time you can leave a message on our answerphone and a Cruse volunteer will contact you as soon as possible.
If your bereavement is the result of a suicide you will be welcomed at our Bereavement by Suicide Group. This is a small group where you can share your feelings and problems with people who can identify with your personal needs.
All members of our Branch work on a voluntary basis. Services are free to clients though contributions to overheads are welcome. Click here to find out how to send us a donation.
Process for dealing with requests for help
Caller phones in
Telephonist takes the call or the message from the 24 hour answerphone
Allocator contacts either the Bereavement Volunteer, trained in counselling skills, or Social/ Support group as requested by the Caller
Caller is contacted by Bereavement Volunteer or by Social/Support group
Bereavement Volunteers, trained in counselling skills, are divided into five groups that meet monthly with their group leader who supports them in their work. We aim, in this way, to provide a high standard of service to clients who contact Cruse.
We invite clients to complete a questionnaire at the end of bereavement work as we are always looking for ways to improve our service. It is heartening and encouraging therefore to report that 95% of the returned questionnaires indicate that clients are extremely satisfied with the support they receive.
